One of my friends mentioned that there was some news about K-MUG and MVPs in yesterday's mathrubhumi news paper (Kochi edition). I tried to search the same online, but couldn't locate. Any kochi folks noticed it? If so, could you please scan it and send?

A Fast way to learn Programming Patterns in .net

The Java community had a head start in applying design patterns ( for that matter architectural patterns, domain models , security patterns ....you name it ) as Enterprise java stack matured some years before Microsoft came up with their .net based stack

One nice side effect is almost all frameworks have been ported to .net with a Prefix 'N'

some examples are

Junit - Nunit
Hibernate - NHibernate
Spring - Spring.net ( there seems to be a Nspring ..i prefer spring.net )
Ant - Nant

while helping .net people to learn these tools , i understood one thing

"Most frameworks with Java lineage are excellent computational incarnations of design patterns".

Rather than "ploughing" through standard books , you only need to fiddle with these libraries which put those patterns in to use.

Spring.net has a good implementation of Dependency Injection ( and Inversion of Control ) , Aspect Oriented Programming

Nunit is a good unit testing framework with which you can do test driven development

Nhibernate can help you learn O/R Mapper ( POEAA ) , DDD ( Eric Evans )

if you are .net programmer , learn these tools with prefix 'N'. Your modelling skills will get better.

When I told this to a friend of mine ...he asked .."When ADO.net entity framework is coming..what is the relevance of Nhibernate ?"

Since most of the open source libraries are based on JSR , it has been peer reviewed and programming model will be general and will be based on multiple vendor consensus . This is good for learning patterns.

Image not displaying in a popup

Hi guys,

I have to load an image in a popup form. I have written code to display the image in server side. every thing is perfect about the code. I dubugged the cs code and as such there is no problem in the code. Even I provided the value for the src property of the image control directly.

But when the page loads, the image is not displayed.

Guys. pls help me to sort out this problem..

Hello Friends,

Today, 25th Oct, K-MUG is completing 1 year. Last year same day, we had officially launched K-MUG ( http://k-mug.org/content/LaunchReport.aspx).

I think we have done many contributions for the technical community in Kerala in last one year. Its time to recap the activities, and plan for the future.

It would be great, if you can send your comments/suggetions here (or admin@k-mug.org) about K-MUG activities.

Let us know if you would like to be part of the K-MUG executive committee, since we have many positions open :)
