. (2020) 'What Is the Purpose of Education'. 14 May.
Higher education is believed to enhance societal development in general and individual development in particular. Apart from enhancing capabilities of an individual, higher levels of education lead to increased levels of awareness in all fields; health, socioeconomic and political understanding, contribution to society, peace, and higher satisfaction levels in life. This paper tries to explore different positive effects of higher education on an individual and the different social, psychological and political benefits of attaining higher education. Introduction In the beginning year of this 21 st century United Nations Organization (UNO) has initiated a momentous endeavor towards a better world by trying to make a difference in the lives of less privileged people. Recognizing the need for such an approach to address various problems 193 countries across the globe have left their ideological differences and unanimously agreed to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by the end of the year 2015. The objective behind this endeavor was to make a rigorous attempt to promote human development by protecting the dignity and freedom of the individuals by achieving basic standards of living. Among eight goals the very second goal is to achieve universal primary education. In it, one of the targets is literacy of 15-24 years old female and male which indicates the significance of education in achieving these goals. The millennium development goals was talking about primary education-yes, primary education in the era of globalization-and this is the situation of millions of people around the globe. But by the year 2015-before realizing the goal of achieving universal primary education-globalization has changed the level of education that is necessary for human beings to be more dignified, self-reliant, and capable in socioeconomic and political fields. One needs to explain the importance of higher education in the era of globalization as higher education is the solution for most of the problems in the society. As it is to be understood, higher education is a weapon for combating all kinds of social, civil and personal ills of an individual. Higher education is a tool that builds confidence, self-respect and dignity in a person. Education is the heart and soul of any nation in order to achieve prosperity. Higher education plays pivotal role in molding human behavior, their relation with others, and necessary skills to lead a harmonious life. It is an accepted fact that education plays a fundamental role in changing and fine tuning the society-the higher the education the higher the development-to individuals and to the society. Different research results strongly suggest a positive relation between level of education and the
Ask yourself, do Americans “... hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”? (Jefferson, 1) In no way can equality mean people are equal sometimes, or only on weekends. To hold true to the promises our forefathers had once declared, change must open new doors to more opportunities because education is the key to a brighter future in the lives of Americans. Education has to be addressed and upon reform, America can return to being the clear-cut powerhouse of the world.
The educational system is hindering the talents of the artists, inventors, and even musicians. With that said, standardized testing offers no clear benefits… and besides, who makes these tests anyways? Most people don’t acknowledge that most teachers lack credentials and don’t reach the standards that they force upon students (Partanen, 1). In the end, if we are serious about preparing a far higher percentage of our students for college-readiness, we have to get serious about being serious. This means, above all, telling the truth: the truth about how little, academically speaking, we demand of our students, how poorly we select and prepare their teachers. The important thing about the educational system is that it can be fixed. Our generation and the generations to come have the chance to make a difference, but we need the ability to grow intellectually at our own pace just as they will. But the important question to ask is how do people learn best. Patience and accountability have to be implemented into the educational system because up to todays time the lack of patience has cause students to slip under the expectation line and the lack of accountability has allowed teachers to breeze by with basically no results and has allowed students the opportunity to ignore the educational goals in place for students to meet.
Here is an example of an essay on the importance of education:
Alternative forms of education have developed since the late 20th century, such as , , and many parallel or supplementary systems of education often designated as “nonformal” and “popular.” Religious institutions also instruct the young and old alike in sacred knowledge as well as in the values and skills required for participation in local, national, and transnational societies.
Clearly the importance of education leads directly to the future of the American people. One day the next generation will be in control of the decision making in the country and without the proper education how can you possibly expect them to make the right the decisions. A study by Duke University stated that people with higher SAT Verbal scores are related to future political engagement, suggesting that the content of higher education, especially a curriculum that develops language and civic skills, are influential in shaping participation in American democracy (Greenfield, 1). But in order to maintain the American superiority that the country has prided itself on for many years education must hold strong as the foundation of the future thinkers in America. The identity of education must be first recognized by the people in charge. In todays society educational progress should not only be made in schools that have money and resources. Along with students' natural inability to learn, there come problematic factors including wealth and income. A study by the University of Michigan shows that 82% of wealthy students graduated high school and moved on to college compared to the 49% of low income students (Mehta, 1). The focus isn’t on whether or not the students try in school anymore, it automatically starts with money from the beginning. When a high school student wants to go to college with a higher GPA but isn’t accepted due to income, we lose many people with strong points in every aspect of the job world.
In January 2005, Miles Templeman, Director-General of the Institute of Directors, said that government policies on education and training – particularly the lack of a proper system of vocational education – were to blame for the UK’s continuing productivity gap.
Education should mean students are challenged with demanding and coherent curricula, teachers are recruited from the top echelon of college graduates, schools tell the truth to students about their performance and teachers, students, and parents are all committed to the difficult work of constant educational progress: if not the purpose of education is not evident (Steiner, 1). In order to reestablish the importance of education both on students and the country as a whole, education must be simplified. The political cartoon that portrays various species of animals all required to climb a tree exemplifies the challenge students face in the present day educational system, mainly because expecting people of different backgrounds and circumstance to conform to the same way of learning is already promoting failure in major proportion. To promote individuality and glorify ones success is said to be the American way, but individuality is not capable in the present day educational system because school districts would rather recycle the same ideas that have provided unacceptable results in the past.
Question 1: What is the importance of education?Answer:
It is no news that education forms an intrinsic part of man’s life. As such, an individual without education is as good as a man born blind, groping blindly in the dark world without any guideline principles to model himself. Just like culture, education is a means of transmitting a way of life from one generation to the other. By this, education cannot be divorced from both the learners and the society which they ultimately help to build. However, the quality as well as the personnel involved in education has widely become an issue of great concern to the world at large. Question 3- What are the benefits of free education?Answer:
Besides the fact no one is actually equal, the educational system hinders the advancement intellectually of the people who need extra attention. Students who work their hardest and fail still aren’t given the tools needed to achieve what society labels success. In order to correct the inequality of the educational system, radical and haste changes must be made. Americans need to correct the difficulty that is embedded into the system, while also reassessing the way American children should value education and hold the people in charge more accountable for teaching materials, primarily teachers. Education should be based on talents, not on the position of or status quo assigned to students.
