Essay on why college athletes should get paid

Even though some athletes are on scholarship, I still believe that athletes should get some kind of payment due to the fact that we are producing championships and other accomplishments which bring in revenue. It’s not like the scholarships pay for items that an athlete needs. Scholarships pay for attendance of the school. Scholarships to these prestigious universities and colleges are earned and not given. The outcome that the university gets from athletes performing is that it brings attention to the school and there is an increase in people who want to attend there. Another big topic presented in the film is that EA Sports and the NCAA use athletes in video games, but the athletes are not receiving any form of revenue from them. The film explained that this a problem because student-athletes do not always have enough money to buy things that are needed in everyday life, such as food and hygiene products. Every day athletes are working hard from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. or later in the night and are not receiving enough in return. I believe that student-athletes are being used for their abilities to help the university or college become noticed to the world, and yet are not getting an outcome for the things that they are putting into the school, which is a big problem.

Everyone works well when there is compensation. NFL players are usually paid based on their worth and performance. Therefore, if colleges give these athletes financial compensation, they will feel motivated to raise their level of performance. Moreover, the students will feel less stressed about their financial situation; hence they can focus more on the games without money anxiety. This justifies why college athletes should be paid.

Additionally, of college athletes reported having an emotional or mental health issue that had affected their athletic performance. However, only seek help because they don’t want to show weakness or vulnerability.

Schooled: The Price of College Sports is about how college students are not receiving any form of money for their hard work. Schooled: The Price of College Sports was released on October 16, 2013. I went to this viewing and it’s important because I do not support the topic of student athletes not getting paid for their hard work. The purpose of this film is to highlight paying college athletes to participate in a sport that they do well. After seeing this film, I do not see why the student athletes are not getting paid who attend these universities because they are producing revenue for the schools. Before I viewed the film, I looked up information to have a better understanding about it. I learned that there are three different directors and one narrator in this film. The film rating was around 7.9 to 8/10. The three directors in the film were Jonathan Paley, Ross Finkel, and Trevor Martin. The intended audience for this film is college students who are athletes and people who are involved in college athletics. In addition, the athlete’s guardians are also an intended audience while making this film. If it was not for some athlete’s parents, they would not be in college. This topic has been debated for a while and has not had a resolution. The crowd that was expected to show up to class to watch the film are students in RST, especially the athletes that are in the class.

The National College Athletic Association (NCAA) had long prohibited college institutions from paying to preserve amateurism. This is because NCAA does not consider college athletes as professionals, and therefore, colleges do not have to compensate them. They also claim that paying college athletes defeats the purpose of college, which is education. However, given the billions that these college athletes generate for their schools, all sides should accept that some sort of compensation is not only fair but inevitable. As much as the debate around this topic is huge, continue reading to learn why college athletes should be paid.

This is another reason why college athletes should be paid; if they are paid, they can get help independently without relying on college facilities that are often poor and unsatisfactory.
