Is there a college essay template I can use?
The format of a 500-word scholarship essay is similar to a shorter essay. Each paragraph is about 75-125 words, and it consists of 3-5 well-written sentences. If you are writing a story or personal anecdote, the formatting can be more like a novel than a news article. It is ok to use 10% less or more words.
Some people like to use a mind mapping tool where they can organise their essay thoughts and many of these are free, simple and available on a phone.
Tell your story/essay to someone and record this with your phone as the way you explain it to a living person may be clearer than what you have in writing.

In university, lecturers teach you to properly reference previous literature and how to navigate bibliographies and module handbooks.

Regardless of citation style, you want to use standard margins, text size (usually 12 pt font), and font style (usually Times New Roman, Arial, or another professional, unobtrusive font). Your essay should be double spaced (2.0) with the start of each paragraph indented from the left. Page numbers are usually placed in the top right corner; whether these appear with your last name before the number depends on citation style.

The vast majority of instructors and professors also write essays at a professional level, and they do not ask of their students anything less than the standard that is asked of them.
